A new play will be announced each month and we will meet online to discuss, share opinions, thoughts and reactions.

The sessions will be led by our Literary team. To register for Reading Club each month or for more information please email literary@shermantheatre.co.uk. Open to all writers although numbers will be limited for each session.

The next session will be on 11 May to discuss Lose Yourself by Katherin Chandler

The latest plays we discussed are:

  • Far Away by Caryl Churchill
  • Wolfie by Ross Willis (Nick Hern Books 2019)

A spiraling odyssey of dizzying theatricality, Wolfie is a bold, fantastical fairytale following two twins separated at birth and asks who is truly responsible for society’s most vulnerable children.

  • Emilia by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Oberon Modern Plays 2018)

Commissioned specifically for Shakespeare’s Globe, and with an all-female cast, this world premiere will reveal the life of Emilia: poet, mother and feminist. This time, the focus will be on this exceptional woman who managed to outlive all the men the history books tethered her to.

  • Burgerz by Travis Alabanza (Methuen Drama 2021)

Hurled words. Thrown objects. Dodged burgers.
A burger was thrown at Travis Alabanza on Waterloo Bridge in 2016.
From this experience they have created a poetic, passionate performance piece based around the ‘burger’: the texture, and taste of being trans.
