We were delighted that Action on Hearing Loss Cymru recognised Sherman Theatre's Deaf Theatre Club with an Excellence Wales Award in May 2017 -- the judging process was carried out by a panel of people who are deaf and hard of hearing and members of the charity. The awards recognise organisations that are working to improve services to the 575,000 people in Wales who have a hearing loss.

“The idea of having an unique Deaf Theatre Club has helped break down barriers. It has enabled us to enjoy the theatre knowing that there is support on hand.”
Deaf Theatre Club member Heather Patterson
“I had a wonderful day with Deaf Theatre Club at the Sherman. I'm learning BSL at the moment and I love theatre -- it's the perfect combination of the two. It's a great opportunity to meet new people, have good conversations, and for me to improve my BSL. It's so important for deaf people to have access to theatre; the Sherman are doing a great job with their captioning/signed performances.”
Miriam Frances (BSL Learner)
“Deaf Theatre Club at Sherman Theatre creates opportunities amongst Deaf BSL users to embrace the world of accessible theatre via BSL and captions. It is a relationship based on mutual respect and feedback about the various shows that we watch. Without Sherman 5 I doubt I would have watched the shows as much.”

"My son is three and profoundly Deaf. He is a Coclear implant user. He went to see The Emperor's New Clothes in December and was so engaged in the show his father commented he had never seen him so well behaved! He sat and enjoyed the whole production. Keep up the good work so that Nathaniel can grow with his right to access and continue to enjoy his right to the arts!"
