Company in Residence

Supporting Wales’s most exciting emerging theatre companies.

Every two years Sherman Theatre supports an emerging Welsh or Wales-based theatre company whose work we are excited by.

The Company in Residence receives support and guidance from our Artistic team to help them develop and present new work. In addition, the Company in Residence benefits from the knowledge and expertise of the theatre’s administrative departments including Finance, Development and Marketing.

We currently have two Companies in Residence: PowderHouse and Red Oak:

PowderHouse have been a Company in Residence since 2018:
PowderHouse is a Cardiff-based theatre company creating international-facing contemporary theatre with a distinctly Welsh voice.PowderHouse makes work in the national languages of Wales. PowderHouse is Chelsey Gillard & Jac Ifan Moore.

Red Oak have just joined Sherman Theatre as a Company in Residence.

Red Oak Theatre is a Cardiff based theatre company set up by Matthew Holmquist and April Dalton. Red Oak Theatre explores the relationship between early-career directors and designers, how their work can be developed and presented in bold new ways.

“We are incredibly excited to be working with the Sherman over the next few years. This is an important opportunity for us to build on our core values; investing in early-career artists through design-led practice.

With the support of the Sherman we are looking forward to collaborating with a wide spectrum of artists, supporting their development and offering opportunities to create new worlds with us.” Matthew Holmquist and April Dalton.
