Suzanne has been gracing our television screens and main stages across the world, playing a wide range of characters in a career that has taken her from the West End of London, BAM in New York to the Wales Millennium Centre; from early appearances on Brookside on Channel 4, to a long stint on BBC television’s Casualty. With Sunetra Sarker, she also co-directed an episode of Casualty, called ‘Guilty Secrets’.
Her radio show, Sunday Morning with Colin Jackson and Suzanne Packer broadcast for five series for BBC Radio Wales. This led to her being invited to sit in for Behnaz Akhgar on occasions for her BBC Radio Wales afternoon show which she found both frightening and exhilarating in equal measure. She now sees the opportunity as great training for her expanding career into public speaking, as a presenter of TV documentaries and podcasts.
She has her own podcast series, Verandah Talks which she co-presents with her longtime friend and fellow actor, Suzette Llewellyn. The idea for Verandah Talks podcast series was conceived after Suzanne and Suzette co-editied the highly acclaimed book, Still Breathing, 100 Voices.
Suzanne is a founding member of the BiBi Crew who produced new writing from an African-Caribbean perspective. Last year, the company was awarded Blue Plaque status in recognition as the first Black Women’s Comedy collective who devised and directed their own productions at Theatre Royal Stratford East, London from 1991-1995. From 2020, as a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, here in Cardiff, Suzanne has taught Acting and promoted Restorative Practice Principles.
She is very proud and honoured to have received an Honorary Fellowship by Bridgend College in 2021. As a trained teacher with many years experience in arts education, her professional work as an actor closely aligns with her ambassadorship for the college.
