Two generations. One town. Many stories.
Listen on Soundcloud here.
Fragmented memories, half-remembered stories and anecdotes shared by residents of The Daffodils Care Home in Merthyr Tydfil have been woven together in a beautiful new audio drama: Tydfil Tales.
The stories were told through conversations between the residents and UAL Performing Arts Students at The College Merthyr Tydfil. These stories were dramatised and are performed in Tydfil Tales by the young people.
Made in, by and for the community, Tydfil Tales gives voice to two generations of Merthyr Tydfil citizens, bringing them together through storytelling and creativity. Telling stories is an act of generosity. In Tydfil Tales, the generosity of the residents transports us to the past.
Touching, funny and sometimes sad but always warm and humane, Tydfil Tales is a wonderfully evocative listening experience.
You can listen to Tydfil Tales from 6.00pm on 1 July on Sherman Theatre’s YouTube and SoundCloud channels.
Following the launch of Tydfil Tales on YouTube and Soundcloud, directors Timothy Howe and Samantha Alice Jones will be hosting an informal Q&A via Zoom. To receive the link to join the call, and find out how this beautiful audio drama was made, please email marketing@shermantheatre.co.uk. Suitable for mainstream drama teachers, workshop facilitators, teaching artists, community groups, and individuals interested in the process of organising, creating and directing this community-based audio drama.
