Composer Eädyth Crawford (Heart of Cardiff and The Merthyr Stigmatist Sherman Theatre) and playwright, actor and belly dancer Rahim Abde will collaborate to compose a new song in partnership with the Oasis One World Choir. Rahim is a refugee who has lived in Cardiff for the past four years. The project was commissioned by Sherman Theatre, Wales’s first Theatre of Sanctuary, as a result of conversations between the choir and Sherman 5 on collaborative activity to celebrate Refugee Week 2021.
The song will be composed, developed and recorded with members of the choir in remote meetings, throughout late June before it is recorded at Sherman Theatre, and performed live later in the summer. The song will be developed through the active involvement of the choir members, many of whom are themselves refugees.
Laura Bradshaw, Musical Director of the Oasis One World Choir has said "Oasis One World Choir project have found a passion for writing songs. It has become a great way in which we can dialogue with each other regarding issues - we can show support to the world through song as well as challenge the world via our songwriting. Gaining insight and new perspectives on the craft from different creative facilitators will be a really exciting prospect. Working with playwright Rahim and singer songwriter Eädyth promises to be a highly engaging and rewarding experience."
Sherman Theatre’s Artistic Director Joe Murphy said “Sherman Theatre is delighted to announce this exciting collaboration between Eädyth, Rahim and the Oasis One World Choir on World Refugee Day. We are proud that the Sherman is a place where everyone feels welcome. We are passionate about elevating the voices in our community and what voices these are! We can't wait to share the finished song with you, our audiences, this summer."

OASIS ONE WORLD CHOIR
Since 2015 The Oasis One World Choir have been working with Oasis Cardiff a centre for asylum seekers and refugees, to deliver The Oasis One World Choir project. They have a very supportive network of singing and musical volunteers. These volunteers come from both the local Cardiff community as well as from the refugee and asylum-seeking community. The resulting chemistry of the wonderful people from around the globe making music together, as well as the many barriers that the project seems to break down along the way are evidence that this project is extremely special and unique.
