Sherman Theatre is delighted to be working with Tron Theatre Company on the Welsh and Scottish premiere production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’s The Motherf**ker with the Hat. This major co-production of this fast-moving and foul-mouthed play will run at Sherman Theatre from 21 – 31 March following performances at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow.
Guirgis has been described as a prolific chronicler of marginal lives, with his stage plays garnering multiple awards: The Motherf**ker with the Hat received six Tony Award nominations. The Motherf**ker with the Hat is an explosive, expletive-filled, tough-talking tale of love and infidelity set on the meanest streets of New York City.
It’s New York and Jackie’s in trouble. An ex-con struggling with addiction, he’s trying to go straight and get back with childhood sweetheart Veronica, but can he trust her? His sponsor, the outwardly pious and clean-living Ralph D. isn’t all he seems and Cousin Julio really doesn’t like him very much. Can Jackie keep it together or is he on a path to self-destruct?
A superb cast has been announced for this production including three Welsh or Wales based actors: Francois Pandolfo as Jackie, Alexandria Riley as Veronica and Kyle Lima as Cousin Julio. Alexandria Riley will be well known to Sherman Theatre audiences for her portrayals of Dottie, the housekeeper, in The Cherry Orchard, and Kitty in How My Light Is Spent. The cast also includes Jermaine Dominique as Ralph and Renee Williams as Victoria. Sherman Theatre Associate Artist Kenny Miller will create their seedy New York setting, with lighting from Simon Hayes and Iphigenia in Splott’s Sam Jones providing the soundscape.
