Sherman Theatre is looking for writers connected to Cardiff to tell their stories about their city. Whether you are from here or based here, we want to hear your story.
What do we mean by ‘writer’? We mean anyone who tells a story. You could be a playwright, a musician, a documentary maker or a spoken word artist to name but a few. Whatever medium you work in, if you have a story to tell about Cardiff then we want to hear from you.
The selected stories will be told as Audio Theatre Experiences. You can interpret that to mean whatever you like: from a radio drama, to a musical, to a concept album, to an audio documentary, or anything else in-between. The only rule is that the story telling medium is sound, not visual.
Some things to think about:
Think about form. We want to offer as many diverse stories in as many diverse ways as possible. Think about tone. What kind of story do you want to share at the moment? Can it be entertaining and give an emotional gut punch?
Think about length. Each story can be no less than 10 minutes and no more than 20 minutes.
Think about language. We want stories told in Welsh, in English, in both and in other languages.
If this sounds like a project for you then please submit a paragraph pitch (of no more than 500 words) outlining the story you want to tell, your connection to it, and your idea for how it would be presented as an audio theatre experience. Please fill in this form to submit your paragraph and other information by 5pm on Thursday 23 July.
Writers selected for this project will receive a fee.
At least two of the selected stories will be told in the Welsh language.
There will be dramaturgical support for developing writers.
This is an opportunity that storytellers at any stage in their career can take advantage of.
