The Sherman launches open submission to discover the best of Welsh language writing

In 2016, the Sherman wants to discover and engage with the most exciting and innovative contemporary Welsh language writers. As one of Wales’s leading producing houses with a particular success rate for bold and contemporary new writing, we want to ensure that Welsh language work features highly within the future ambition of the Sherman. Through BRIG we are offering an open submission to discover the best of Welsh language writing talent. We are searching for relevant, brave, gritty stories in the Welsh language.

Following the submission deadline, we will select one of the pieces to be developed over an intensive 3 day period culminating with a rehearsed reading here at the Sherman, and on a national platform at the Eisteddfod, during the first week of August, 2016.

The successful writer will receive a fee to cover their time in the development process with the Sherman creative team ahead of the staged reading.

Under the artistic vision of Rachel O’Riordan the Sherman has celebrated recent new writing success with Iphigenia in Splott (Gary Owen), All That I Am (Dafydd James) and soon to open Bird (Katherine Chandler), in a co-production with Royal Exchange, Manchester.

All scripts must be between 40 – 50 minutes and feature no more than 3 actors
