What is Sherman 5?

Sherman 5 is a free membership, designed to give people from Community First areas who have never attended a performance at the Sherman Theatre the chance to do so.

Sherman 5 is open to residents of Communities First areas across Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Rhondda-Cynon-Taf and Bridgend, Newport and community groups that supports people who face barriers and/or disadvantage.

When you join Sherman 5, your first visit to the theatre on one of our special Sherman 5 nights is FREE.

Sherman 5 offers members:

  • FREE first visit to a Sherman 5 night
  • Reduced ticket costs for subsequent visits for Sherman 5 nights: £5.00 (£2.50 for under 25s)
  • FREE coach transport from Communities First areas on Sherman 5 nights (limited availability)
  • Up to 75% discount at Sherman’s Café Bar
  • Exclusive FREE Sherman 5 activities and events
  • The opportunity to join as a Sherman 5 rep to experience working in a theatre and earn Time Credits

Am I eligible to join Sherman 5?

  • Are you a fist time attender to a production at the Sherman Theatre?
  • Do you live in a Communities First area**? AND / OR Are you part of a community group that supports people who face barriers and/or disadvantage such as Age Cymru, Young Carers, The Salvation Army, RNIB etc.***?

If the answer to both of these questions is YES, you should qualify for Sherman 5 membership!

*Our definition of a first time attender is someone who has not attended within the last five years.

**Sherman 5 is open to residents of Communities First areas across Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Rhondda-Cynon-Taf and Bridgend. A full list of eligible areas can be found here.

***The community group itself will need to be registered with Sherman 5 in order for you to join as a group member and the first booking needs to be through/with your group leader.

How do i join?

If you live in a communities first area or are part of a community group referred to Sherman Theatre, use the sign-up form (English) (Welsh) to register for Sherman 5 membership. Once you have signed up you will receive your Sherman 5 membership card. You can then book tickets for Sherman 5 performances which are marked in the Sherman programme with Sherman 5 icon.

Your Visit

Once you are registered on our system and have your Sherman 5 membership card you can start booking your tickets and taking advantage of the Sherman 5 offer.

How do I book tickets?

In person

Visit us at the ticket desk at The Sherman Theatre, Senghennydd Road, Cathays, Cardiff, CF24 4YE – don’t forget your membership card.

Remember to quote that you are a Sherman 5 member when booking.

Online

You can also book online by simply clicking the book now button on each show page and selecting, ‘Sherman 5 Adult or Sherman 5 Under 25 tickets’. You will need to show your membership card when you collect your tickets.

Can I pay with Time Credits?

Yes, subject to availability.  Two Time Credits are the equivalent of one ticket. Just let the Ticket Office staff know you’d like to pay with Time Credits when booking.

Where do I collect my tickets?

Tickets can be picked up from Box Office once booking is made or can be picked prior to the performance you are attending. Please bring your membership card. 

How do I get to the Sherman?

The Sherman Theatre is a venue based in Cathays, Cardiff which is easily reached on foot, bicycle or public transport.

There is street parking available on Senghennydd Road which is operated by Cardiff Council. Charges are enforced from 8am to 6pm Monday to Sunday, with fees from £1.70 for one hour to £8 for 10 hours (free after 6pm).

Travelling from Community First areas

Sherman 5 nights offer a range of FREE transport arrangements from Communities First areas

Sherman 5 Coach

A coach can be arranged to pick up from the Communities First areas.

The coach will pick you up at a series of agreed points and bring you to the theatre. The coach will make the same return journey after the performance. Coach seats need to be booked when booking tickets.

Taxi

The Sherman 5 coordinator can arrange a Taxi to bring you to and from the Sherman Theatre if required. Taxis need to be booked when booking tickets.

Cardiff Bus Iff Card

Sherman 5 audience members can pick up a FREE Iff card from the Communities First Coordinator in their cluster. The card will allow travel on Cardiff Bus to/from the theatre on Sherman 5 nights. Card needs to be booked when booking tickets.

Walking Bus

Walking buses will operate for Sherman 5 family productions within reasonable walking distance of the Sherman Theatre. Ask the ticketing team for further information.

Cycle Bus

Lead cyclists will accompany audiences from the four Communities First areas in Cardiff to the theatre on Sherman 5 nights. Places need to be booked when booking tickets.
