Show Information

A city divided.

Two feuding families.

Star-crossed lovers.

A tragedy as relevant today as ever.

A city at the mercy of two feuding families. Amid the ferocity and bloody violence, two young lovers meet. Driven by passion and fiery lust, the pair defy their families. What follows is vengeance, murder, and their inevitable fate.

This violently modern take on Shakespeare's tragic story places the original text in a contemporary setting. A tale of teenage rebellion, gang warfare and young love that continues to resonate with today's generations.

"Fresh out of drama school, Chris Gordon is an absolute find as Romeo, who’s sensitive and strong in equal measure and has a lovely chemistry with Juliet. With her cropped peroxide hair and her penchant for pastel pink gowns and DMs, Sophie Melville plays an edgy Juliet..." Western Mail and Echo ****

"EXCITEMENT! EXCITEMENT! EXCITEMENT is the word that sums up this bold and compelling production from the Sherman Theatre’s newly appointed artistic director, Rachel O’Riordan." Theatre in Wales

"Both savage and beautiful, both respectfully traditional and brashly modern, this Romeo & Juliet will surely enthuse those who are being dragged to it by their teachers, and delight those who go along of their own free will." British Theatre Guide

"...a fresh, energetic and gritty portrayal of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers while remaining true to his language". **** Western Mail & Echo

"The resulting explosion is fierce and sexual and loud and sad and controversial and everything theatre should be. Go and see it."
