Show Information

Folk by Caroline Finn - National Dance Company Wales from National Dance Company Wales on Vimeo.

National Dance Company Wales's presents a vibrant and exciting repertoire of dance this Spring with the World Premiere of Folk, by its new Artistic Director, Caroline Finn.

Folk - Caroline Finn

Folk is the exciting new piece by National Dance Company Wales’s Artistic Director, Caroline Finn. Folk will feature Finn's darkly comic expressions of life and people using her quirky and highly engaging choreographic style. Exploring themes of social dynamics; familiar and surreal scenes and characters come alive to an eclectic and enchanting musical landscape

Tuplet - Alexander Ekman

Alexander Ekman's Tuplet, is a witty and high octane exploration of the simple notion of rhythm. The dancers' breath and bodies create a powerful drumming soundtrack, combined with pounding electronic accompaniment, as well as the familiar and evocative jazz sounds of Fly me to the Moon. This fierce physicality combines with joyful, carefree dance that really shows off the personality and virtuosity of the dancers.

Walking Mad - Johan Inger

Set to the driving, rousing sounds of Ravel's Bolero, and music by Arvo Pärt, Walking Mad is full of wit and laced with an unsettling edge of madness.

You can see an electronic programme here

Family Interactive Matinee

Family Interactive matinees are a fun, engaging and creative way to introduce your family to dance.

You and your family get the chance to dance on stage with our dancers (not obligatory!), ask questions and learn extracts of the show.

After the interval, the children will have the opportunity to watch our dancers perform Tuplet, which uses wit and meticulous use of rhythm and timing to create a fun and uplifting experience for everyone involved.

The dancers create their own percussive score which combines with an electronic soundscape featuring snippets of jazz and big band, meaning they can show off their versatility while projecting their individual personalities. The performance is followed by a Q&A session when the children can ask the dancers questions about the show, or their life as a dancer.

Show Times

Reviews

"The choreography - which is sometimes fluid and free, at others jarring, like a flip-book - is complemented so well by the set and costume design, but above all it's Finn's choice of soundtrack that makes Folk as powerful and as stirring as it is." STEVE STRATFORD REVIEWS
