RSC Open Stages

27 May 2015

Four local Amateur Dramatic Companies from Wales and the South West will be performing extracts of plays they have developed with the RSC’s Open Stages Project at Sherman Theatre, Cardiff on Saturday 30 May.

As part of the RSC’s Open Stages project engaging with and celebrating amateur theatre, the RSC invited amateur companies from across the region to produce their own Shakespeare or Shakespeare inspired productions.

As a celebration of Shakespeare and amateur theatre, the companies had the opportunity of developing their skills and Shakespeare themed plays through workshops.

The workshops were a chance for the companies to knowledge-share between professionals and amateurs and for participants to meet each other. Attendees benefited from professional expertise across a range of disciplines, including acting, movement, voice and text, directing, design, stage management and lighting.

One of the local amateur dramatic groups, Everyman Theatre said they were thrilled to be involved with the opportunity. Director of Everyman Theatre, Geraldine Watson said:“The dynamism, enthusiasm, and knowledge readily given by their practitioners has been challenging and invigorating for us.”

Lisa Deeth from Go2 Theatre who are based in Lydney and Chepstow said: “Being part of the RSC Open Stages project this year and attending workshops run by the RSC in the Sherman Theatre has benefitted us as a company greatly, not just for the skills learned, but the sheer pleasure of attending.”

The four Amateur Dramatic Groups involved come from around Wales and the South West and will be showcasing 10 minute extracts from the following plays:

Everyman Theatre – Measure for Measure

Go2 Theatre - Shakespeare’s Will

Lisvane Players - Inky Blottes

Studio Theatre - Old, Bold and Won't be Told

The local amateur groups will be showcasing extracts of their work as part of RSC Open Stages at the Sherman Theatre on Saturday 30 May, 7.30pm. Tickets are £5.
