JMK Trust and Sherman Theatre's Directors Group
The aim of the directors group is to facilitate an ongoing network that develops young and emerging directors and theatre makers. This will be done through numerous free skills workshops, networking events and access to mentoring and support throughout the year. There will be opportunities to work in both Welsh and English.
Members of this group will be eligible to apply for assistant director positions on future Sherman Theatre productions. This will be supported by The Carne Trust.
The group is open to new and emerging directors from across Wales. To become a member of the Directors Group please send 100 words expressing your interest to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Submissions invited for the next stage of the Directors Programme
Sherman Theatre and the JMK Trust are inviting submissions for the next stage of their Directors Programme supported by The Carne Trust, which will run from January 2018 until the end of the year. We are looking for six emerging directors who will take part in a series of workshops and training sessions led by Adele Thomas and supported by industry professionals and Associate Director David Mercatali, working on developing important skills including leadership and process. All directors will be paired with a writer from our New Welsh Playwrights Programme to develop a play which will be showcased to industry, and given the opportunity to start a new creative partnership. Participants in the JMK Directors Programme will be invited to apply for bursaries for Assistant Director positions as well as other directing opportunities throughout the year. The JMK Trust was founded in the memory of James Menzies-Kitchin, a brilliant young director, to give opportunities to theatre directors of similar ability and vision. Each year it gives one prestigious award to enable one outstanding applicant to create their own production of their choice of classic text, currently at the Young Vic in London. For many, winning the JMK Award is the breakthrough moment in their directing career. The annual JMK Award is for directors under the age of 30, but the regional programme and the bursary is for directors of any age.
